The first ever Zero Plastic Run was held by ICS Maldives in February, 2019. A run launched to create awareness about the negative impact caused by the use of plastic, more than 1000 people took part, advocating for the banning or minimizing the use of everyday plastic.
The negative impact caused by the use of single-use plastic is not a new subject today. Leftover plastics not only harms the environment we live in, but also gravely effects the precious marine life. The participants of the run were encouraged to pick up plastics during the 5km run. Various plastic collection points were set up at different locations so that the collected plastic could be disposed properly and sent for recycling. In addition, ICS is honored to have carried out this running event without the use of any single use plastic.
The participants finished off the run, taking a pledge to support minimizing/banning the use of single-use plastic. The pledge was carried out by palm/printing on a banner placed near the finish line of the run. With the support and encouragement received from our partners and the participants, we are delighted to announce that the Zero Plastic Run will be held in the year 2020 as well.
